A Concise History of the Mormon Battalion in the Mexican War, 1846-1847 (A Rio Grande Classic)
Published in Hardcover by Rio Grande Pr Inc (October, 1984)
Average review score:

A "must read" for anyone interested in first person accountsDaniel Tyler was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He participated in many of the "critical" events of that Church from it's beginnings. His first person account of the march of the Mormon Battalion is a day by day account of the "longest recorded march in military history." A lengthy introductory by John Taylor, president of the Church, a poem by Eliza R. Snow and a recount of the First General Festival of the Battalion with speeches by Brigham Young and others, makes this a very readable and valuable addition to any history library. Scholars will find numerous mistakes in roosters and some facts. But this is to be expected from someone who didn't have access to anything but diaries and other somewhat less reliable resources. It is a biased account. He was as I have said; a dedicated member of the Church. He most definitely give his views on various people and events. But that is what makes this such a good read. It's not a watered down politically correct account. It was writted by someone who was there. I recommend it without reservation.

A Concise Introduction to the Theory of Integration
Published in Hardcover by Birkhauser (April, 1994)
Average review score:

A perfect place to start Real AnalysisThis is a perfect textbook for a one-semester course in measure and integration at a graduate level. It's concise but complete and detailed, rigour but motivated and inspiring. It's more technical than Bartle's little book on integration. It also has solution manual in the end to check on. I hope more readers enjoy such a wonderful germ written by a star form MIT.

The Concise Oxford Companion to English Literature (Oxford Paperback Reference)
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (October, 2003)
Average review score:

The perfect pocket reference to literatureThis book fills a niche, and does so perfectly. I wanted a reference work for literature, but I didn't want to pay $50 for one. This book gives short, concise blurbs, which is often all one needs. It is organized well and is inclusive enough for the average household. Not a book for specialists, but excellent for the layperson and student.

Conducting Insanity Evaluations, Second Edition
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (18 February, 2000)
Average review score:

A Dynamic Partnership! Here's yet another--MUST READ--for the forensic expert! The authors have formed a "poetic partnership," especially in that both the legal and the psychiatric/psychological fields are successfully brought together in their focus. The text is clearly extensively researched, well-documented and, perhaps, most importantly, is packed full of valuable information! A clear line of communication is established between both the legal and the mental health professional. An extensive list of references is also provided. Rogers and Shuman have done an admirable job with CONDUCTING INSANITY EVALUATIONS!
Reviewer is the author of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity,(which is also on Amazon.com).

The Confederate Carpetbaggers
Published in Paperback by Louisiana State University Press (January, 1997)
Average review score:

Excellent history. The new Amazon format forces the reviewer against his will to assign
the numerical evaluation.
"Carpetbaggers", as generally understood, is a term of opprobrium applied to civilian Yankees who invaded the South after the Civil War in search of political and economic opportunity.
There was another class of migrant not as well known; men and women who moved North to create new lives and careers among their former enemies. Some failed, but many remained to succeed brilliantly, enriching the entire nation and serving as ambassadors of reconciliation.
Professor Sutherland's graceful prose style lends itself admirably to their story.

First professional biographical study of Daniel PrattAn easy to read book with a tremendous amount of detail not only about Daniel Pratt and his business but about the town of Prattville that was named for him and the inhabitants of that town during the time period from 1835 until the 1870s.
